At Little Haven Nursery we combine the EYFS with best practice from Montessori and Reggio Emilia.

Montessori education is an educational approach developed by Italian physician and educator Maria Montessori based on her extensive research. It is characterized by an emphasis on independence, freedom within limits, and respect for a child’s natural psychological, physical, and social development.

The aim of the Reggio Emilia approach is teaching how to use these symbolic languages (eg., painting, sculpting, drama) in everyday life. The program is based on the principles of respect, responsibility, and community through exploration and discovery in a supportive and enriching environment based on the interests of the children through a self-guided curriculum.

Upon admission and at regular intervals thereafter our qualified nursery nurse will conduct routine milestone health checks, such as weight, height and physical fitness.

Always on hand during school hours should a child fall ill or incur minor injuries, the nurse will alert you if she has any concerns over a child’s health or wellbeing, and will encourage you to inform her of your concerns also.

Our nursery doctor visits monthly and is happy to meet with parents who wish to discuss any aspect of their child’s wellbeing.

The nurse actively interacts with the teaching staff to create playful yet informative activities to build the children’s awareness of health and well-being topics.

At Little Haven Nursery we believe that the parent is the first and foremost teacher in her/his child’s life. Parents are the prime educators until the child attends an early-years setting or starts school and they remain a major influence on their children’s learning throughout the nursery and beyond.

The nursery and parents both have crucial roles to play. We believe a child’s growth potential is a result of parent and teacher partnership. Little Haven Nursery provides ample opportunities for parent involvement and workshops.

Furthermore, we continue to involve parents through themed events (i.e. mother’s day concerts, national day celebrations, graduation events), newsletters, emails and an open communication between you and your child’s teachers through the use of communication books and meetings.
All children are observed by their key practitioner regularly to track their development. Parent teacher meetings are conducted twice a year and you will receive a written progress report at the beginning and end of each academic year.
